Over 10 weekly sessions, participants will read and discuss The Beginning of Guidance, exploring:
- Foundational acts of devotion (Purification, Salat, Sawm)
- Avoidance of sins and moral discipline
- Proper conduct with Allāh and others (friends and family)
The text is a concise work of counsel, outlining what is essential for every believer, both in daily habits and acts of worship. Through guided discussion and reflective exercises, students will connect these teachings to their own lives.
Subjects:
Acts of Devotion — Waking, ablution, cleanliness, entering mosque, prayer preparation and practice, sleeping, etc.
The Avoidance of Sins — Sins of body, senses, tongue, appetite; sins of the soul (envy, ostentation, pride).
Conduct with Allāh and People — Methods of companionship with Allāh, and manners of associating with students, teachers, parents, friends.
Shaykh Khazen Zaoud
Teacher
Khazen Zaoud began his journey of sacred knowledge by memorising the Qur’an in Australia under the guidance of Shaykh Abdul Moez & Shaykh Abdul Kareem Newman. In 2005, he travelled to Yemen where he studied for a year at a branch of Dar al-Mustafa. He then moved to Damascus, Syria, and pursued formal studies at Ma’had al-Fath al-Islami, graduating in 2011 with a focus on Arabic and the Sharia sciences, and receiving an ijazah in Qur’an.
Returning to Australia in 2012, he served as the Imam of Lakemba Musalla for several years and taught at Rissalah College in Lakemba. He now continues to teach and serve the community at Daar Ibn Abbas.
