Shaykh Abdul Moez is the founder and director of Daar Ibn Abbas. He studied for nine years in various countries around the world after completing his high school education in French. The countries he studied in include: Tunisia [Zaytuna University]; Syria (Muhaddith Al-Akbar Institute, Al Fath Institute); Egypt (Al-Azhar University - Faculty of Tafseer). After completing his degree in Islamic studies, he specialised in the Sciences of Hadith – Prophetic traditions (Syria) and the sciences of the Noble Qur'an (Egypt). In 2005 Sh. Abdul Moez has successfully completed a course in the English Language: English for further Study and English for Academic purposes, as well as Australian Society and Culture. He also studied Secular Law. Shaykh Abdul Moez continues his studies and gives regular lessons throughout the week.

Abdulkarim Newman is the head teacher of Quran Memorisation Program.

Khazen Zaoud began his journey of sacred knowledge by memorising the Qur’an in Australia under the guidance of Shaykh Abdul Moez & Shaykh Abdul Kareem Newman. In 2005, he travelled to Yemen where he studied for a year at a branch of Dar al-Mustafa. He then moved to Damascus, Syria, and pursued formal studies at Ma’had al-Fath al-Islami, graduating in 2011 with a focus on Arabic and the Sharia sciences, and receiving an ijazah in Qur’an. Returning to Australia in 2012, he served as the Imam of Lakemba Musalla for several years and taught at Rissalah College in Lakemba. He now continues to teach and serve the community at Daar Ibn Abbas.

Shaykh Abdullatief Domingo, originally from the Cape Malay community of South Africa, began his journey in Qur’an memorisation at Darul Uloom Zakariyyah and Darul Uloom Azadville in South Africa, completing his hifdh in Brisbane, Queensland under Qari Fida Rahman. He later pursued tertiary studies at the University of Western Sydney, graduating with a degree in English, Modern History, and Politics in Islamic Lands. Alongside his academic studies, he continued to study a range of traditional Islamic texts, focusing on Shafi‘i fiqh, Aqeedah, and Ihsan, both locally and in South Africa. He now shares his knowledge and experience as a teacher at Daar Ibn Abbas.

Dr Abdul Aziz Al Sadafi completed the memorisation of the Qur’an at Daar ibn Abbas in 2011. He graduated from Al-Azhar College in Cairo in 2014, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Sharīʿah and Law from Al-Azhar University in 2018. In 2020, he completed an Honours degree, specialising in Uṣūl al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence), followed by a Master’s degree in 2022, with a dissertation titled: “Maqāṣid-Based Ijtihād in the Thought of Imām Maḥmūd Shaltūt (d. 1383 AH) and Its Application in His Writings” (الاجتهاد المقاصدي عند الشيخ محمود شلتوت وتطبيقاته من خلال مؤلفاته) In 2025, he earned his PhD with a thesis entitled: “Implied Meanings and Their Impact on the Semantic Expansion of Sharīʿah Texts: A Foundational and Applied Study” (التضمين وأثره في الاتساع الدلالي للنصوص الشرعية: دراسة تأصيلية تطبيقية) Dr Abdul Aziz currently serves as a teacher at Daar Ibn Abbas, contributing his deep academic expertise and passion for Islamic scholarship to the education and development of his students.
